Acts 4:10-12

"Let it be known to all of you...that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, who God raised from the dead. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Fall 2013/Spring 2014 Class Schedule

Welcome back!

Our Fall 2013/Spring 2014 Class Schedule is ready to be viewed.  If you would like to see it, please email me at pianomom@mindspring.com and I will send you a copy.

I will try to put the schedule on this website, but last year it proved unsuccessful.

We strive to make things easier, but they don't always work that way.  Home schooling moms will always overcome obstacles.  Right?

Praying your home schooling year ends with joy in your heart and peace in your households!!

Adding Teacher Bios daily & Class Descriptions - March 31st

Hi everyone,

Each day I am adding our new teachers and their biographies below.  If you want a hint at what we're offering this coming year, you can learn about our teachers and what they will be offering by reading their biographies.  It's very exciting to have such a wonderful group of families participating and teachers willing to give of their time and effort to educate our children for God's glory.

I plan to post our class descriptions by April 5th.  I'm still gathering class descriptions and ordering curricula for teachers. Also, as many of you know, my mother has a brain tumor and my grandmother was diagnosed this weekend with a lung disease.  It's been a real challenge and your prayer cover would be most appreciated.

Blessings in Christ,
Mitzi

Hi everyone,

I hope you are having a wonderful spring break!  We've all been blessed over the past year, but our cooperative is changing and growing.  Thank you teachers for sacrificing your time and efforts for us.  We have 5 more weeks of classes this year, which is hard to believe.

Next week we will be posting our 2013-2014 class offerings and teacher biographies.  Beginning April 10th, registration for returning families will open.  New families may begin registration on May 1st.

If you are interested in joining our cooperative, plan to attend an informational meeting at Lamb of God Church, 5140 County Road 17, Helena, Alabama on April 30th from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.  We will provide additional information, gather some from you, introduce many of our teachers and explore our future together in our home schooling journey.

More information will be posted shortly.

Parental Involvement & Homework

Hi everyone,

Based on our growth, I've been remiss to post so I want to begin by discussing two topics very important to all parents.

Parental Involvement in the Home School Environment

When you're home schooling, you, as parent, are really in charge.  With teacher involvement at our cooperative only one day each week, it is vital that students and their parents work together to carry the learning process through to completion.

Discussing the material your student is studying almost guarantees your child's success.  For example, if a high school student is spending at least 45 minutes - 1 hour each day in science study and you can ask him or her several questions from their Study Guide each week and that student can answer them, then I would say that student is being prepared to be successful in high school and college.  Difficulty in communicating with teenagers I'll cover another day.

If your child senses that their education and your involvement in it is important to you, it naturally becomes important to them.

As a home schooling parent, you become educated along with your children.  By the time you have a home school graduate, you will literally gain almost an additional college level education yourself.  Home schooling is a life style - a learning life style that we all hope will continue into our children's adult lives. We and our children are learning to give God glory.

Homework from Classes (particularly 4th grade and up)
Tests, homework and class participation are the only ways a cooperative teacher can evaluate how well a student is performing.  As home schoolers, we know this is not enough to gauge how well our children are learning.  Parents and teachers work together to educate our children.

Homework assignments give parents the opportunity to participate in and evaluate their child's learning. They also help teachers measure student performance. If a student fails to turn in assignments, evaluation by a cooperative teacher becomes extremely difficult; it limits that student, the class, and the teacher's efforts to give assignments beneficial to the child's education.

Sometimes circumstances prohibit completion of all assignments. Communication with teachers in this circumstance is crucial. Ultimately, confirming a child's success lies with each of us, as parents.  If you feel the homework load is too heavy, contact the teacher immediately and help that teacher navigate your child's progress.  We can't do it without each other.
